Get your votes in by noon Friday for high school boys basketball player of the week for the semistate games. The nominees:
Keaton Aldridge, Cathedral: The senior Detroit commit led the charge for the Irish with 29 points, eight rebounds and five assists in Cathedral’s 73-68 comeback win over No. 1 Silver Creek in the championship of the Class 3A semistate at Seymour. He also had 11 points, 10 assists, six rebounds and six steals earlier in the day in an 85-64 win over No. 2 Princeton.
Tavar Baskerville: New Haven: The junior went off for 15 points in the fourth quarter to lead New Haven to a 59-55 win over Columbia City in the championship of the 3A semistate at Logansport, including the go-ahead basket with 2.4 seconds remaining. Baskerville had 13 points earlier in the day in a 63-49 win over Delta.
Dane Caldwell, Silver Creek: The Richmond commit ended his high school career with 31 points and 15 rebounds in a 73-68 loss to Cathedral in the Class 3A semistate championship at Seymour. Caldwell had 22 points in a 67-44 win over Roncalli in the semistate semifinal.
Mason Darrell, Crown Point: The senior guard and Bellarmine commit finished with 15 points in a 66-40 win over Northridge for the Class 4A semistate championship at Elkhart.
Luke Ertel, Mt. Vernon: The senior Purdue commit went for 22 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in the Class 4A semistate championship at New Castle in a 77-69 win over New Albany. Ertel also had 24 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in a 66-46 win over Decatur Central earlier in the day.
Kierson Lengacher, Barr-Reeve: The junior guard led the Vikings with 29 points on 10-for-15 shooting in a 52-47 win over Hauser in the Class A semistate championship at Washington. Lengacher had 10 points and six rebounds in a 39-37 win over Liberty Christian earlier on Saturday.
Reese McKee, New Albany: The junior guard was hobbled by a leg cramp in the 4A semistate championship against New Albany but still pitched in 14 points, four assists and four steals in a 77-69 loss. He was outstanding in a 65-57 win over Terre Haute North in the semifinal, finishing with a game-high 23 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter.
Gage Riffle, Triton: Riffle led Triton with 14 points in a 78-46 win over Tri-County in the Class A semistate semifinal at Lafayette Jeff, then drilled the go-ahead 3-pointer with 46.5 seconds left in the night game, leading Triton with 14 points in a 51-45 win over North Vermillion to clinch the Class A state finals berth.
Treigh Schelsky, Parke Heritage: The senior Huntington commit led Parke Heritage with 16 points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals as the Wolves knocked off Linton-Stockton 66-53 for the Class 2A semistate title at Southport. Schelsky also had a big game in the semistate semifinal with 17 of his 22 points in the second half of a 44-38 win over Triton Central.
Austin Schlabach, Westview: The junior had a monster day for Westview in the Class 2A semistate at Muncie, finishing with 27 points, nine rebounds and six assists in a 69-48 win over Fort Wayne Bishop Luers in the championship game. He had 23 points, eight rebounds and eight assists earlier in the day in a 65-62 win over Lapel.
Brady Scholl, Northridge: The 6-8 Indiana Wesleyan commit did all he could in the Class 4A semistate at Elkhart, leading Northridge with 23 points and seven assists in a 46-39 win over Homestead, then finishing with 27 points and eight rebounds in a 66-40 in a 66-40 loss to Crown Point for the championship.
Max Vise, Mt. Vernon: The 6-8 junior finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds and two assists as Mt. Vernon defeated Decatur Central 66-46 in the first game of the 4A semistate at New Castle. He then went for 22 points and 10 rebounds in a 77-69 win over New Albany in the night game.
