The Kansas high school swimming and diving state championships concluded Saturday, May 23. The top athletes competed for gold at the Shawnee Mission School District Aquatic Center.

Shawnee County had several athletes qualify for the final meet of the season. From diving to swimming races, the Topeka-area had some strong performances. Here are the local results from the state championship.

Class 6A​


1 meter diving

  • Fifth place: Rhiannon Good, Washburn Rural, 379.35 points

100-yard freestyle

  • 24th place: Hara Del Castillo, Topeka High, 1:01.28

100 backstroke

  • 18th place: Hara Del Castillo, Topeka High, 1:08.97

Class 5-1A​


1 meter diving

  • 10th place: Avery Rosenow, Cair Paravel, 304 points

100 breaststroke

  • 16th place: Kaelyn Gerdel, Hayden, 1:18.86

100 freestyle

  • 18th place: Clara Sobba, Shawnee Heights, 59.45

200 freestyle

  • 13th place: Kaelyn Gerdel, Hayden, 2:13.51
