IOWA CITY — Selection Sunday is less than one week away.
Iowa men's basketball finished the regular season 20-11 overall and an even 10-10 in Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes nearly pulled off upsets against Michigan and Nebraska in the final two games of the regular season but came up just short in both. Iowa lost to Michigan by three and then fell to Nebraska in overtime.
The Hawkeyes are still trending toward making the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2023, but it's not a guarantee just yet.
Iowa plays the winner of Maryland and Oregon in the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday, March 11. If the Hawkeyes were to drop that contest, they would be on a four-game losing streak entering Selection Sunday (three in the regular season and one in the Big Ten Tournament). Iowa could still make the Big Dance in that scenario, but a collapse of that magnitude would make things more uncertain.
Iowa can avoid added drama with a win on Wednesday in the Big Ten Tournament. If Iowa accomplishes that, it would face Ohio State on Thursday, March 12.
