Just before the Seattle Mariners begin their two-game series finale against the Los Angeles Angels, the club placed outfielder Luke Raley on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain.
In a corresponding move, the M's have called up outfielder Rhylan Thomas from Triple-A Tacoma and have designated right-hander Sauryn Lao for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
Raley, 30, has a .206 batting average with two home runs, eight RBI, slugging .324, an OPS of .669 and an OBP of .345. Over the last week, Raley has ignited a hot bat with a .333 batting average, one home run, three RBI, and an OPS of 1.007 in that span.
Mariners skipper Justin Hollander has said that Raley will miss up to six weeks. Another crucial blow to this already ailing Mariners squad.
Thomas, 25, made his MLB debut against the Angels on Wednesday , becoming the fourth Mariner to make his debut in 2025. For Tacoma, Thomas was batting .319 with 15 runs, six RBI, and six stolen bases in 26 games for the Rainers. He also accumulated a .363 OBP, slugging percentage of .362, and an OPS of .724.
Lao, 25, made his MLB debut earlier this month, striking out three and allowing one unearned run on three hits through 1.2 innings pitched, but was optioned back to Triple-A the following day. In his time for Tacoma, Lao posted a 2.25 ERA through 12 innings, nine punchouts, and a 0.92 WHIP in four appearances.
