Seattle Mariners manager Dan Wilson speaks to the media before a game against the New York Mets on Tuesday at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. | Teren Kowatsch/Roundtable Sports
SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners will be looking to win its eighth-straight game and third-straight series win in the second of a three-game set against the New York Mets at 6:40 p.m. PT on Tuesday at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
The Mariners will be looking to earn that win and tighten their grip atop the American League West without their starting first baseman.
Seattle starting first baseman Josh Naylor exited Monday's 3-2 win against New York after hitting a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. That homer ultimately sent the game to extra innings, which was won via a walk-off base hit in the bottom of the 10th by second baseman Cole Young.
Naylor exited the game due to back spasms, which popped up on the home run swing, per postgame comments from Mariners manager Dan Wilson after Monday's game.
Naylor was not listed in the lineup before game two of the series Tuesday.
Despite him not being in the lineup, Naylor feels a lot better than yesterday, according to Wilson and will likely be available off the bench later in the game. Left fielder Luke Raley will be hitting in Naylor's usual cleanup spot and Patrick Wisdom will be playing first base in place of Naylor.
"Felt like it was a good idea to give him the day today," Wilson said in a pregame interview Tuesday. "See how he recovers and see if it kind of speeds it up a bit. ... Likely available toward the end of the game."
-- For the second day in a row, New York will be opting for a bullpen day with Huascar Brazoban getting the start. Right-hander Jonah Tong will pitch the bulk of the innings, as Sean Manaea did in Monday's game.
-- Logan Gilbert will be getting the start for Seattle. The 2024 All-Star is coming off his second-straight shutout outing and third in four starts. He struck out six, walked two and allowed five hits in six innings pitched against the Athletics on May 27.
-- Mariners starting pitcher Cal Raleigh is currently working his way back from a right oblique strain, which landed him on the 10-day injured list May 14.
Raleigh, who's spent the majority of his rehab at the team's spring training facility in Peoria, Ariz., returned to Seattle during a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday and has been rehabbing in the PNW since.
The 2025 American League MVP finalist caught several pitches Sunday and took some throws to second base in full gear. He followed that with some lateral agility workouts.
