Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix took another huge step forward on Wednesday during mandatory minicamp, where he not only participated in individual drills, but also in 7-on-7 drills. Broncos coach Sean Payton is happy with Nix's progress thus far.
"There are certain things he didn’t do in the team periods, but a lot of what he did in the individual… He’s doing well," Payton said. "He’s doing really well. I was just talking to Mark Schlereth earlier, pre-practice. (Nix will) clearly be ready in time for training camp. I think he’s going to be (a) ‘full’ [participant] by the end of this month. Yet, it’s good to have him out here in uniform.”
The Broncos have been very careful easing Nix back into action after a broken ankle ended his season in the playoffs. Payton is optimistic that the injury will not hamper Nix's mobility going into 2026.
"I think I mentioned this last week, and I think this is important: I don’t think when he’s fully recovered and he’s out here participating [that] you’re going to see someone that doesn’t move,” Payton said. "His superpowers, his ability to move and not get sacked, find throws — I don’t think any of that will be impacted at all. I think he’s working extremely hard on this recovery. I think he’s more than ahead of schedule.”
Nix also believes he is ready to show he is back and healed. "I could go full go right now if they wanted me to," Nix said after Tuesday's practice.
Following a month-plus summer break, players will return for training camp in July, and all eyes will be on Nix and his mobility within the Broncos' offense.
