It's not uncommon for NFL quarterbacks to have their own personal QBs coach.

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix works with David Morris, and he also worked with throwing guru Tom House last offseason. Notably, Nix works with those personal coaches on his own time — they do not visit the team's facility, where the Broncos have their own coaches.

When coach Sean Payton arrived in 2023, he promptly kicked Russell Wilson's personal QBs coach, Jake Heaps, out of the building. Three years later, Payton was asked at the NFL combine last week how he feels about personal QB coaches.

“The workout quarterback coaches? I’m good," Payton said. "I’ll tell you a funny story. My first year in the league was 1997 with the Philadelphia Eagles. The first week I was in, Jon Gruden sent me to Phoenix to workout a quarterback by the name of Jake Plummer. He was a first-round pick, and it was his pro day. I remember we all sat around, the scouts. This was his pro day. They said, ‘Coach, are you going to put him through?’ I was the only quarterback coach there. So I put him through 87 throws. This was his pro day. There wasn’t a script, there wasn’t music or uniforms.

"Obviously, a lot has changed. I love that these opportunities for these private coaches exist. A lot had to do with the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement when, all of the sudden, facilities weren’t open as long. Once they come to us, then they’re with us. I’m comfortable if you have a swing coach, but on your own time.”

So, there's no issue with Nix working with his "swing coach" — when he's away from the team. Now entering his third season in the NFL, Nix can continue working with Morris and House during the offseason.
