Denver Broncos second-year cornerback Jahdae Barron had a 97-yard pick-six during Friday's 27-7 preseason win over the Atlanta Falcons. Barron nearly had another interception later in the game but was unable to secure it.

After the game, Broncos coach Sean Payton reiterated that he doesn't like players wearing sleeves in what seemed to be a reference to Barron.

"Got our hands on a couple [footballs]," Payton said after the win. "Obviously, when you score on defense, and you just look at those statistics, it's a high win percentage. We had a chance for two or three more. We got the sleeves on. I think there's some things we can be better at."

Payton doesn't like his wide receivers to wear sleeves because he believes it increases the risk of fumbles. He also doesn't like defensive backs wearing them, as retired safety Justin Simmons shared in an interview with Guerilla Sports earlier this year:

Payton wanted Simmons to stop wearing sleeves when the coach arrived in 2023, but the safety wore them anyway.

"He got the last laugh because I got let go," Simmons told Guerilla Sports.

Simmons lasted just one season under Payton before being released in 2024.

Barron still has three seasons remaining on his rookie contract, plus a potential fifth-year option for the 2029 season. So he shouldn't be at risk of getting cut, but Barron might reconsider wearing sleeves going forward.
