The Seattle Seahawks are focusing a considerable amount of their efforts this offseason on rebuilding the offensive line. They picked three linemen in the 2025 NFL draft - including NDSU's Grey Zabel in the first round - and now they're ensuring some continuity headed into the coming season. On Monday afternoon, it was announced by NFL insider Ian Rapoport the Seahawks will be exercising the 5th year option for left tackle Charles Cross.

Cross was Seattle's first pick in the 2022 NFL draft, selecting him No. 9 overall. He was the first player selected by the Seahawks in the wake of the blockbuster Russell Wilson trade with the Denver Broncos. Now he's sticking around the Emerald City through the 2026 campaign.

In the NFL, first round players receive the standard four-year rookie contract, but teams are allowed a 5th year option to keep them under club control for one additional season. It makes all the sense in the world why the Seahawks would want to keep Cross as he has been an outstanding anchor along their offensive line. PFF has assigned him an overall player grade of 82.5, which puts him at No. 10 out of 140 qualifying tackles in the NFL.

Cross is a workhorse. He played 1,094 snaps in 2024 and only allowed six sacks. While that number on the surface isn't spectacular, the entire Seahawks offensive line was in absolute shambles. There is only so much a left tackle can do when the rest of the interior line is an unmitigated disaster.

Spotrac is estimating a 2026 salary of $17.5 million dollars for Cross, however if Seattle is picking up his 5th year option it's safe to assume he's in their long term plans and they'll work to get him to a legitimate extension.
