The Seattle Seahawks desperately needed to address their offensive line, and they did so with picking Grey Zabel out of NDSU No. 18 overall. It was a smart, logical pick, and (most importantly) correct pick by the Seahawks. General manager John Schneider has taken criticism over the years from fans who believed he has not done enough to improve up front, and comments last year about how he believes guards are "overdrafted and overpaid" did him no favors.

Fortunately, the Seahawks found a guard in Zabel to convince Schneider to stay put at No. 18 (not trading back) to draft at such a lofty position. By doing so, Seattle actually made some franchise history. Zabel became the highest guard drafted by the Seahawks since they selected Hall of Famer Steve Hutchinson No. 17 overall in the 2001 NFL draft.

Interestingly enough, Hutchinson is actually employed by Seattle's personnel department. According to Seahawks reporter John Boyle, Hutchinson himself was involved with evaluating Zabel.

Per @johnpboyle, Grey Zabel is the Seahawks’ highest drafted guard since Steve Hutchinson No. 17 overall in the 2001 NFL draft. Hutchinson is working for the Seahawks organization in their personnel department.

Hutchinson was a Seahawk from 2001-2005. He wasn't just apart of the best offensive line in franchise history, they were the best unit in the NFL at the time. It has been a long time lost in the wilderness for Seattle - especially since John Schneider joined the organization in 2010 - trying to field a unit even remotely similar to that legendary group.

Having a Hall of Fame caliber lineman like Hutchinson back in the building, lending his expertise, is invaluable for the Seahawks. Especially when it comes to evaluating the position he earned a gold jacket playing. If the 12th Man wasn't already excited about Grey Zabel before (hard to imagine!), getting the proverbial blessing from one of the best lineman to ever wear the navy and neon should be more than enough to push them over the edge.
