The Seattle Seahawks elevated running back Cam Akers and tackle Amari Kight from their practice squad for Week 17's game against the Carolina Panthers.

Seahawks.com put out a press release at 1:13 p.m. Pacific Time on Saturday, December 27th sharing the news.

Both players were also elevated last week against the Los Angeles Rams. Kight is serving as the backup left tackle since Charles Cross injured his hamstring at the end of Week 16. Akers is providing running back depth behind starter Kenneth Walker III and backup Zach Charbonnet. Neither made it into the game last week, though. Josh Jones played surprisingly well in Cross' place. Walker had his best game of the season. Charbonnet played a crucial role as well. However, if any of these players should need a replacement to step in, the Seahawks might need to rely on Akers and Kight.

Akers' accomplished NFL track record (57 career games) and Kight's elite size (6'7", 318 pounds) give them opportunities, but they've instilled enough trust in practice make them the next men up at positions of need for Seattle right now. [Head coach] Mike Macdonald consistently mentions "The 70" in reference to the 17 players on the practice squad being just as much a part of the team's weekly plans as the 53 on the active roster. Due to needs and availability, these are the two that trusted to come up from that 17 to join the 53 this week.
