Wide receiver is a position that most expect the New Orleans Saints to address early in the NFL Draft. One of a few receivers to watch in the later rounds is Harrison Wallace III of the Mississippi Rebels if the Saints look to draft a second wideout. Don't be surprised if New Orleans comes out of this draft with two receivers, considering the state of their depth chart to end last season.
While Chris Olave is expected to be signed to a long-term contract extension after his best production, there is massive uncertainty behind him. The team likes Devaughn Vele and Ja'Lynn Polk, but each have yet to prove they can remain healthy and productive for an entire season. A player like Wallace won't be a high pick, but has the skills to boost a depth chart and even push for a prominent role.
Nicknamed Tre Wallace, the wideout began his collegiate career with the Penn State Nittany Lions out of Pike Road High School in Alabama. He'd take a redshirt as a freshman in 2021 after recording no stats in three games. In 2022, Wallace carved out a role as a fourth receiver and caught 19 passes for 273 yards with a score. A similar role in 2023 saw Wallace pull in 19 receptions for 228 yards and a touchdown. The 2024 campaign saw Wallace become the top wideout at Penn State, as his 46 receptions and 720 yards were second on the team behind tight end Tyler Warren. After the 2024 season, Wallace entered the transfer portal and landed with the Ole Miss Rebels in the SEC. Wallace instantly became a vital part of a Mississippi attack that made a run to the CFP semifinals. He'd have four outings of at least 85 yards receiving, pulling in 61 passes for 934 yards to lead the Rebels in each category.
Tre Wallace is a probable Day 3 selection. However, don't be surprised if a team falls in love with his upside and picks him as early as the third round. He needs to sharpen his breaks to maximize separation and must improve production after the catch. Wallace also does outstanding work out of the slot, giving him the chance to be an immediate contributor in multi-receiver sets with exciting upside in his game.
New Orleans has had tremendous success with wideouts taken late in the draft or go undrafted altogether. It's doubtful that Wallace goes that late. As a probable Day 3 option, however, he has the abilities to boost the Saints receiving corps and provide quarterback Tyler Shough with another weapon in his arsenal.
