After a week of drama, Brendan Sorsby seemingly ended things at Texas Tech on his own terms.
The offseason quarterback transfer addition parted ways with the Red Raiders on Monday, just a week after he received an injunction giving him eligibility relief for the 2026 season after he admitted to prolific sports betting over four years.
With his college career now effectively over, Sorsby has withdrawn his lawsuit against the NCAA, forfeiting his eligibility in the process. Now, he intends to enter the NFL supplemental draft this summer.
Sorsby's former head coach, Cincinnati's Scott Satterfield, said he had already fielded calls from every NFL team about Sorsby when it seemed the quarterback could declare for the 2026 NFL draft. He said he's expecting quite a few more calls now that Sorsby has become available in the supplemental draft.
"There certainly have been scouts and GMs that have reached out just asking questions and more on a personal level, probably more than the football level, with their interest knowing that potentially something like this could happen. I certainly think now that the news is out, over the next few weeks, there's going to be a lot more inquiries about him and trying to find more about him," Satterfield said Tuesday, per ESPN. "He's very talented, has great size, can run, can throw."
Despite Sorsby opting to transfer and the gambling that his since come to light, Satterfield is hoping Sorsby finds success in the draft and believes he will get an opportunity.
"I'm pulling for Brendan in his future endeavors. I think if you just look at the history of the NFL, there are guys that have made mistakes and they still have taken chances on them, so I feel like he will have certainly learned from this and grow, and somebody will give him an opportunity," Satterfield said.
The NFL supplemental draft allows players who become eligible after the draft deadline to be selected by NFL franchises. Teams bid future draft picks to select players, with the last supplemental draft being held in 2023 and the last selection being made in 2019.
An official date for the draft has not yet been set but would likely occur sometime in mid-July.
