Scott O’Neil’s telling response when asked about Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm’s LIV Golf futures

Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm are undoubtedly LIV Golf’s two biggest stars.

However, it is unclear as to where either of them will be playing their golf next season.

DeChambeau’s current LIV Golf contract will expire at the end of this season, while Rahm has refused to commit his long-term future to LIV Golf.

Bryson DeChambeau is an absolute global superstar and it’s hard to see how LIV Golf would survive without him.

Meanwhile, Jon Rahm is unquestionably one of the very best golfers in the world when he’s at his best, so keeping him around will be pivotal for LIV.

So much uncertainty surrounds LIV Golf right now, so Scott O’Neil‘s press conference on Wednesday was an eagerly anticipated one.

Scott O’Neil comments on Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm’s LIV Golf futures​

Scott O’Neil announced on Wednesday that LIV Golf have managed to secure fresh investment ahead of the 2027 season.

That in itself is obviously positive news for LIV Golf fans. However, his response to a question about Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm was far less convincing.

O’Neil was asked by one reporter about the importance of keeping the American and the Spaniard to help secure the future of LIV Golf.

“Yeah, it’s wonderful. We’ve been blessed with stars,“ he replied.

“I define it a little bit differently, and for those of you who have had the privilege and pleasure to travel with us around the world, you get to see it. But I don’t think there was any bigger star on the planet in South Africa than Dean Burmester. And I don’t think there was any bigger star on the planet than Cam Smith when we were in Australia.

“I think when you have a global game and you have 57 players from 21 countries and you’re playing in 10 countries on five continents, how you define stars gets really interesting.

“So while I have all the time in the world for Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, I think I’d be remiss in saying they’re not only two of the biggest, best golfers on the planet, but I think they’re some of the biggest stars in sports, let alone golf. Would certainly love them to come along for the ride and journey because they carry maybe more weight than anybody in the game and I have a lot of time for that.

“I think we have enough support from enough players, and we have such an interesting format and global format, I think we’ll do quite well in getting the right stars for this game.“

Now, it’s fair to say that O’Neil completely dodged that question.

He might not agree with that notion, but it was very telling that he chose to skirt around the issue of the uncertain futures of DeChambeau and Rahm.

Had DeChambeau committed to a new contract, O’Neil would surely have wanted the world to know that, right?

Had Rahm made it clear that he is excited about LIV Golf’s future, O’Neil would have unquestionably wanted to relay that information to everyone.

The fact that he skirted around the question by making remarks about Dean Burmester and Cam Smith was very telling indeed.

Neither Bryson DeChambeau nor Jon Rahm have come out and committed their long-term futures to LIV Golf, and that in itself should be a huge concern for Scott O’Neil and co.
