The South Carolina High School League voted unanimously on June 4 to appoint Associate Commissioner Amy Boozer as the interim commissioner of the SCHSL.

Boozer will replace Jerome Singleton, who has been the commissioner for 21 years and is expected to retire this summer. Singleton still had five years left on his contract.

Boozer previously served as the head coach of the volleyball and softball teams at Newberry High School, and also served as chair of the physical education department. During her tenure at Newberry, Boozer began serving as Executive Secretary of the South Carolina Coaches Association of Women's Sports (CAWS), a position she continues to hold.

“Amy's leadership experience, commitment to educational athletics, and deep understanding of the League make her exceptionally qualified to guide the SCHSL during this transition," said Executive Committee President Dr. Adam Lanford. "We are confident in her ability to provide stability and continued service to our member schools, coaches, and student-athletes."

The SCHSL Executive Committee will start the search for a permanent commissioner on July 1.
