Julia Scheib became the first Austrian woman in 10 years to win the giant slalom World Cup title with victory in Sweden, while Swiss rival Camille Rast flopped and Mikaela Shiffrin managed some damage limitation on Saturday.
Scheib won in Åre .36 of a second ahead of American Paula Moltzan and .75 clear of New Zealand's Alice Robinson.
Switzerland's Rast led after the first run but then missed a gate early in the second.
That gave Scheib a first career World Cup discipline title with one race to spare, while Rast also lost ground in the race for the overall title.
Scheib won five of the nine giant slaloms and came second in two others to become the first Austrian since Eva Maria Brehm in 2016 to win the discipline globe.
"It feels very special. Winning a globe has been my aim for many years. To be so consistent is not so easy. I don't know what to say, this is amazing," Scheib said.
Scheib moved 189 points ahead of Rast with one race left and only 100 points available at the upcoming season ender in Norway.
Shiffrin meanwhile was on course towards first place in the first run before a huge mistake brought her almost to a standstill four gates from the finish.
But she recovered from 12th place to finish fifth, right behind German rival Emma Aicher who celebrated her best career result in giant slalom.
Shiffrin lost only five points on Aicher and leads her by 120 with five races left in a bid for a women's record-tying sixth overall title. Rast now trails by 223 points in third.
Shiffrin could increase her lead again on Sunday in a slalom at the Swedish venue where she celebrated the first of her record 108 World Cup wins in 2012.
Shiffrin has won seven of the eight season slaloms and came second behind Rast in the other to clinch a record ninth discipline title.
