Sananda Fru enters the transfer portal

Per multiple reports, center Sananda Fru is the first Louisville men’s basketball player to enter his name into the transfer portal this offseason. I would not expect him to be the last.

The 6'11 German center was the ACC's most efficient scorer, ranking among the conference's top offensive rebounders and shot-blockers.

Fru led Louisville in rebounding (6.1 rpg) and blocked shots (1.4 bpg), while also averaging 9.0 ppg while shooting 50.0 percent from the field this season. He started 29 games for the Cardinals before coming off the bench at the end of the year in favor of fellow European import Vangelis Zougris.

My understanding of the situation here is that U of L met with Fru after the season and essentially told him it would be best for all parties if the big man moved on. When Fru expressed a desire to stay and a willingness to accept a reserve role and a pay cut, Louisville was interested. His representation was less interested.

There will be a market for Fru in the portal, so I completely understand this and wish him nothing but the best moving forward.
