FC Basel had marked Samuel Essende's name during the winter transfer window. But the 28-year-old striker ultimately headed to BSC Young Boys.
The stumbling block came from the conditions set by FC Augsburg, the player's parent club. The German side demanded a permanent transfer, estimated between 3 and 4 million Swiss francs. However, Basel favored a loan, a move more in line with their financial situation.
The result: Young Boys were able to meet Augsburg's demands and clinched the deal. It's a familiar scenario, as Alvyn Sanches also slipped through FCB's fingers to join the Bernese club.
