The New Orleans Saints have had a rather intriguing offseason in pretty much every sense of the word, including a draft class that filled quite a few of their needs, but multiple still stand. One of the most notable positions that could use a talent influx is at cornerback, where, despite some young talent that could break out in the coming years, they could use more players who could compete for starting spots in the lineup.

It seems they will look to address this issue soon, as Jeremy Fowler of ESPN recently reported that Asante Samuel Jr. met with the Saints on Monday. He also reported that Samuel Jr. will have an injury check-up in July, which will be the point at which he signs with a team, after undergoing neck surgery in April. Samuel played for Saints defensive coordinator Brandon Staley on the Los Angeles Chargers for most of his career.

He is one of the best cornerbacks on the market this offseason, and would be a huge addition for the Saints, especially considering he is still relatively young at 25 years old. In each of his three healthy seasons, he has had two interceptions a year and 11-plus pass deflections. He continued to improve each season he played, peaking in 2023 with 63 total tackles, 2 interceptions, 13 pass deflections, and a tackle for loss.

He would be an exceptional pairing alongside the current group of cornerbacks, and given how late in the offseason he would be signing, the Saints may be able to get him on a relatively discounted price compared to others at the position like Paulson Adebo.
