The New Orleans Saints could be without a key figure on their defense for the upcoming season.

Defensive tackle Bryan Bresee is feared to have suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament, ESPN's Ian Rapoport reported.

Bresee suffered a knee injury at training camp on Wednesday, July 29, and left practice.

A first-round pick out of Clemson in 2023, Bresee has emerged as an important piece for New Orleans' defense. Though he logged a career-low 2 1/2 sacks in 2025 in new coordinator Brandon Staley's scheme, he still helped set the tone for a group that surprised many by ranking ninth in yards allowed per game (299.8).

In three years, Bresee has logged 14 1/2 sacks and 19 tackles for loss.

The Saints in April picked up Bresee's fifth-year option, keeping him under contract with the team through 2027.

Bresee also suffered a torn ACL in 2021.
