Boxer Ryan Garcia doesn’t always follow the script.

Sometimes he writes his own.

That may have been the case Monday, May 18, when Garcia went on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" with his WBC world welterweight championship belt. Then he announced his next fight will be against Conor Benn on Sept. 12 in Las Vegas, with Fallon later adding the fight will take place at T-Mobile Arena.

There’s reason for anticipation.

Conor Benn, the 21-year-old from Great Britain, yesterday posted a video of him and Garcia talking trash.

Then, the reasons for caution.

Almost 48 hours after Garcia’s appearance on "The Tonight Show," none of the other parties involved in the potential fight have confirmed the bout.

Making the fight a reality would require cooperation from mortal enemies – Oscar De La Hoya, the founder of Golden Boy Promotions and Garcia’s promoter, and Dana White, who is Zuffa’s Boxing's co-founder, UFC's CEO and promotes Benn.

Of course, big-money fights have a history of bringing together foes, such as Bob Arum and Don King.

In fact, Arum promoted De La Hoya and King promoted Felix Trinidad for their fight in 1999. And they made a bundle of money amid the animosity.

Jane Murcia, Director of Communications for Golden Boy Promotions, told USA TODAY Sports, "I can't confirm anything at this time." Attempts to reach White were unsuccessful.

Also, no word from the WBC, the sanctioning body that would have to sign off on the fight if Garcia wanted to keep his belt and put it at stake when he fights Benn.

Also, the fight is not listed on the T-Mobile Arena’s calendar of events. The arena did not return an email seeking comment.
