After what he acknowledges was a down-season as a sophomore, Ryan Coleman-Williams feels ready to prove critics wrong in 2026 as one of Alabama football's most explosive athletes. But Derek Meadows, he says, is the Crimson Tide receiver who's really being "slept on."
Meadows missed some of last season in concussion protocol after absorbing a violent hit at Missouri from Marvin Burks, who was ejected on the play. He didn't catch a pass on the season, but appeared in 12 games. Coleman-Williams sees much bigger impact from the sophomore.
"Derek Meadows. Last year, freshman year, he got some snaps, obviously. But this year he's attacked the offseason well. But I think with us having so many young guys and so many old heads, I think people are sleeping on him a little," Coleman-Williams said. "I'm excited for what the rest of his camp holds."
Coleman-Williams caught 49 passes but drops were too common and concentration lapses too evident. As one of the most impressive freshmen in college football in 2024, he will look to recapture that stature this fall.
Meadows (6-foot-5, 212 pounds), will get his best chance to make a mark when Alabama opens the season at home against East Carolina on Sept. 5.
