One of the more underrated members of the Los Angeles Lakers is forward Rui Hachimura. Ever since he came to the team three years ago, there have been times when he has been underutilized and almost completely relegated to a spectator on offense. But ever since Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves went down with injuries, Hachimura has consistently stepped up his game.
In the last five games since Doncic and Reaves suffered hamstring and oblique strains, respectively, the forward averaged 16.6 points and 5.2 rebounds a game while shooting 60% overall and 61.1% from 3-point range. This surge to end the regular season resulted in him making 44.3% of his 3-point attempts for the entire campaign, which has set a new Lakers franchise record.
Meanwhile, in 32 games with L.A. since the trade that brought him to town, guard Luke Kennard made 44.8% of his attempts from beyond the arc. Everyone is going to need to step up offensively in the first round of the playoffs, but Hachimura and Kennard will especially need to carry a good part of the offensive load, given their versatile skill sets.
