Kansas City Royals No. 1 prospect Jac Caglianone marched up to the plate in bottom of the 1st inning against the Tulsa Drillers Tuesday night at Arvest Ballpark.

Standing 60 feet, 6 inches from Caglianone atop the mound was not the usual Double-A pitcher the first baseman was used to. It was Clayton Kershaw.

The three-time Cy Young winner, 10-time All-Star, 2014 National League MVP and 2011 Gold Glove winning Clayton Kershaw.

After undergoing offseason left toe and left knee surgeries, Kershaw's rehab start for the Drillers marked a step forward as he inches towards a hopeful return to the big leagues.

Although he was standing before a clear future Hall of Famer, Caglianone, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, was undeterred.

On a 2-2 count in his first at bat, Caglianone - who was just five-years old when Kershaw made his MLB debut in 2008 - drilled a line drive double into left field, snatching an extra base against the Los Angeles Dodgers legend.

One hit, however, was not enough for the Northwest Arkansas star.

Facing off against Kershaw again in the bottom of the 3rd, Caglianone smashed a single up into centerfield on a full count to finish 2-for-2 against the 37-year-old veteran.

With yet another eye-popping performance from Caglianone, fans grow more and more eager to see him don a Kansas City jersey, especially with the Royals' recently sluggish offense.

"Backside double off the wall against lefty lefty? Get #CagsToTheBigs ASAP," a user wrote.

"Alright if Cags goes yard on Kershaw we call him up immediately," another chimed in.

With the help of Caglianone's three total hits and an explosive six-run inning in the sixth, the Naturals (9-7) carded a 9-7 come from behind victory against the Drillers (5-11).

Northwest Arkansas continues its six-game homestand against Tulsa Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. CT.
