The Southwestern Warriors welcomed in a formidable foe on Tuesday in the form of the Whitley County Colonels, a team that had just one loss on their record heading into the contest and was currently undefeated against in-state opponents. In the midst of a three-game losing streak, the Warriors could not wake up their offense as they fell by a final score of 8-1.
Jackson Couch and Jonas Gallagher had the lone two hits for the Warriors, with Gallagher also adding two stolen bases. Chandler Taylor earned the loss in his start on the mound, going three innings while allowing one run on five hits with three strikeouts. Michael Miller went two innings, allowing two runs on one hit with three strikeouts. Both Gallagher and Jayden Taylor pitched one inning in relief.
Southwestern falls to 4-7 and will return to action on the road on Monday, taking on Wayne County in the beginning of a district series.
Pulaski snaps skid against West Jessamine
Facing off against the West Jessamine Colts for the second day in a row on Wednesday, the Maroons were able to ride a strong effort on the mound from Chase Farmer and Levi Stykes to a 3-1 victory, snapping a four-game skid in the process.
Skylar Stringer led the way with two RBI’s, while Sebastian Guzman added one RBI. Dylan Wesley and Cal Miller also had a hit apiece. Will Adams and Cason Findling each added a stolen base. Farmer earned the win on the mound, going four innings while allowing one unearned run on two hits with eight strikeouts. Stykes had the save, pitching the final three innings while allowing no hits and just one walk with seven strikeouts.
Pulaski improves to 6-6 and will next be on the road at Rockcastle County on Monday to begin a district series.
Somerset shut out in two straight
The Somerset Briar Jumpers continued their stay in Florida with a game apiece on Tuesday and Wednesday, and unfortunately they went 0-2 without scoring a single run.
On Tuesday, the Jumpers were blown out by the Bethlehem Eagles 10-0 in five innings. Kole Grundy had the lone hit in the ball game for Somerset. Raygan New went one inning in his start on the mound, allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits. Miles Strunk went three innings, allowing six runs (two earned) on four hits with two strikeouts. Gunner Strunk closed out the ball game on the mound.
Then on Wednesday, the Jumpers took on Choctaw and again were shut out on the scoreboard, falling 9-0. Caynon Sizemore had two hits to lead the way, with New and Connor Roberts each adding one hit. John Henderson earned the loss on the mound, allowing eight runs on nine hits with one strikeout. Gunner Strunk pitched four innings in relief, allowing one run on one hit with five strikeouts.
Somerset falls to 4-7 and will close out their stay in Florida on Thursday as they take on the Glasgow Scotties.
Lady Jumpers swept by Rockcastle
After falling in game one of their district series at home, the Lady Jumpers traveled to Rockcastle County on Wednesday looking to earn a split of the series. The offense couldn’t produce enough to stay in the ball game though, as Somerset fell by a score of 4-1.
Addy White had the lone RBI for the Jumpers, while Maci Huff and Emry Pyles each added a hit. Huff and Makenna Baker each had a stolen base. White had the loss in her start on the mound, going four innings while allowing three runs on seven hits. Reagan Childers pitched two innings in relief, allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout.
Somerset falls to 6-5 and 0-2 in district play, and will be back in action on the road on Monday as they begin a district series against the Casey County Lady Rebels.
