NEOSHO, Mo. — Crowder College's softball team improved to 10-8-1 with an 8-5 win over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (11-6) in the first game of a doubleheader Friday at the Neosho Sports Complex. Results of the second game were not available at press time.
The Roughriders entered the game after suffering two one-run losses to NEO last month in Miami, Oklahoma.
NEO got on the board in the top of the first when Torey Tedlock drove in Jadyn Helm with a single to left field, but the Roughriders responded in the bottom of the frame with a Layla Pasley single to center that plated Karlee McAllister. Crowder took a 2-1 lead when Pasley scored on a Madelief Croonen sacrifice fly to right field.
The Lady Norse tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third when Helm scored on a Tedlock double to left.
Croonen added to her RBI total in the bottom of the third when she drove in McAllister and Pasley with a bunt to give Crowder back the lead at 4-2. The Roughriders increased their lead to 6-2 off a Cassidy Ellison homer that plated Croonen.
NEO inched closer at 6-3 when Cheyenne Bieber stole home in the top of the fourth, but Crowder got that run back in the bottom of the inning when Callie Cooper drove in Tedlock with a single to right field to make it a 7-3 game.
NEO pulled within two runs at 7-5 when Bieber plated Addisen Hall and Tedlock with a double to center field.
Crowder tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, courtesy of a solo homer by Pasley.
Pasley led the Roughriders at the plate, finishing 4 for 4 with four runs and two RBIs.
Tedlock went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run for NEO.
Tessa Groeneveld earned the win after giving up three earned runs on six hits. She struck out five and walked two in 4 2/3 innings.
The Roughriders return to action when they host Coffeyville for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.
