NEOSHO, Mo. — The Crowder College Roughriders baseball team (13-10) got hits up and down the lineup in a 12-6 win over Oklahoma’s Connors State College (21-5) on Tuesday at Lallemand Family Field in Neosho.
Connors State got on the board in the top of the first when Brooks Hasenclever scored on a wild pitch. Luke Beeler made it a 2-0 game when he drove in Jordan Gallo with a single to right field.
The Roughriders answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Will Beaudoin plated Rylan Michel with a line drive single to left field, and Camren Stratton scrambled home on a wild pitch.
The Cowboys tried to get something going with a two-out steal attempt in the top of the second, but Landon Holzhauer was gunned down by Crowder catcher Paxton Flagg to end the inning.
The Roughriders took the lead for good in the bottom of the second when Maddox Morrison smacked a two-run bomb over the center field fence that plated Flagg and gave Crowder a 4-2 lead.
Marc Nellis pulled Connors State within a run at 4-3 with a sacrifice fly that scored Seojin Kim, but the Roughriders countered with five runs in the bottom of the frame. Ryan Staloney came home on a Lawson Ward line drive single, and Beaudoin and Ward both scored on a Cale Winfrey fly ball to right field. Michel made it a 9-3 game when he drove in Winfrey and Morrison with a line drive to center field.
The Cowboys were able to trim the Roughriders lead to four with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. Holzhauer scored on a Hasenclever double, and Gallo drove in Hasenclever with a liner to center field to make it a 9-5 game.
In the bottom of the fourth, Crowder’s Ryan Stalony scored when Carlo Almendarez was hit by a pitch with bases loaded and Beaudoin gave the Roughriders an 11-5 lead when he scored on a fielder’s choice.
Maddox Edwards scored on a Kim single to center field in the top of the sixth, but that is all the Cowboys offense could muster as Crowder went into the bottom of the inning with an 11-6 lead.
The Roughriders tacked on another run in the bottom of the eighth when Hudson Hosman drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Stalony to make it a 12-6 Crowder lead.
Starter Micah Henson gave up three runs on three hits, while striking out four and walking six in three innings of work.
Connors State starter Gabriel Baldera gave up nine runs (six earned) on 10 hits. He struck out two and walked two in 2 2/3 innings.
Hasenclever led the Cowboys at the plate, finishing 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI.
Five Roughriders logged multiple hits in the game. Stalony finished 3 for 3 with three runs, Beaudoin was 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI, Winfrey finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a run, Michel went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run, and Morrison was 2 for 6 with two RBIs and two runs.
The Roughriders return to action Friday, when they host Jefferson College for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
