As Jesse Minter begins his new role as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, he’ll be looking for playmakers across the roster. He seems to have found a crucial one in third-round rookie Ja’Kobi Lane.
The wide receiver has been the star of training camp early on in the eyes of ESPN’s Jamison Hensley. On Tuesday, Lane continued showing off his explosive abilities.
“That was a great play by Ja’Kobi,” Ravens coach Jesse Minter said. “He’s continued to flash and make those type of plays. As [for] anybody, you’re always searching for consistency down after down. Again, the more he shows Lamar that he’s making those types of plays, the more trust they build, and that’s really what training camp and what practice is all about.”

The Ravens do have Zay Flowers, who just signed a $140 million extension, and Rashod Bateman at wide receiver and Mark Andrews at tight end. And yet, Baltimore finished the 2025 season ranked 27th in passing offense, averaging 175.6 yards per game. A playmaker like Lane could be what the Ravens need to get over their offensive hump.
Over his three years at USC, the receiver made 99 grabs for 1,363 yards and 18 touchdowns. He was named Third-team All-Big Ten in 2025 after catching 49 passes for 745 yards and four touchdowns.
The Ravens clearly believe in Lane’s ability, using a third-round pick on him. Early into training camp, he has offered Baltimore everything they expected. When the regular season comes, Lane must once again prove he is up to the task. But if he’s making one-handed grabs like he did on Tuesday, the Ravens won’t have many concerns.
