The unfortunate news that Cleveland Browns safety Ronnie Hickman was assaulted in New York City on Monday is a reminder to everyone to remain safe and vigilant. While sports figures, especially football players, can seem larger than life, the human side of them becomes obvious in the midst of these types of events.
According to multiple reports, four individuals punched Hickman after a verbal altercation around 4:30 AM Monday morning at the Sixty Les hotel in Manhattan.
Hickman is a New Jersey native who just completed his third season with the Browns, about to hit restricted free agency after his first year as a full-time starter, after a stellar college career at The Ohio State University. The team released a statement regarding Hickman’s injuries following the attack:

"Ronnie Hickman was a victim of assault early Monday morning at a New York City hotel. Ronnie was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital after the incident, was later released, and is home resting with his family."

According to reports, “The suspects fled the location in an unknown direction,” and it was unknown whether the assailants were aware that Hickman was an NFL player or not at the time of the altercation.
