Texas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker thought he'd change up the pitching situation on Tuesday night at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies. Consider the decision one of the best so far this season.

Tyler Alexander worked a clean first inning, then Kumar Rocker stepped in and went 7 2/3 innings of three-hit ball as the Rangers simply dominated the Rockies 10-0. Rocker is now 2-4 this season as he walked three and struck out seven. He even got into the ninth inning before Jalen Beeks came on to get the final out.

Joc Pederson came into the game as a pinch-hitter for Andrew McCutchen and went 4-for-5 with an RBI. Brandon Nimmo and Ezequiel Duran had three hits apiece for the Rangers, who are now 23-25 this season and in second place in the American League West Division.

Duran had four RBIs and Nimmo contributed three RBIs as the Rangers' offense clicked for 16 hits.

But Rocker was simply awesome and gives the Rangers' pitching staff a shot in the arm, too.

The Rangers were 8-for-17 with runners in scoring position and ended up leaving 11 runners on base Tuesday night. They could have made the final score much, much worse. But it was bad enough for the Rockies, who became another MLB team to reach 30 losses this season.

Colorado has tried to become a better franchise this season, revamping its front office. But the results so far have been similar to recent seasons as the Rockies are now 19-30 and in last place in the National League West Division.

The Rockies' Sammy Peralta took the loss, falling to 0-1 this season. He only worked two-thirds of an inning, giving up two hits, two earned runs, walked two, and struck out one. Peralta left Tuesday night's game with a 27.00 ERA.

Reliver Tanner Gordon came on and worked the bulk of the Rockies' innings. He went 6 1/3 innings, giving up 12 hits, seven runs (all earned), walked one, struck out five, and gave up a home run. Seth Halvorsen followed, working an inning while giving up two hits and one earned run.

Duran's two-run double in the first put Texas up 2-0 early. Nimmo and Duran added RBI singles in the second inning, and Jake Burger got into the act with another RBI single as the Rangers took a 5-0 lead.

Nimmo slammed a two-run home run, his fifth homer this season, in the top of the fourth and the Rangers extended their advantage to 7-0. Justin Foscue's sacrifice fly in the fifth inning added another run, and Pederson's RBI single in the seventh made it 9-0 Texas.

Duran's RBI double in the eighth inning wrapped up the scoring as the Rangers secured the win and the shutout, too.

These two teams wrap up this three-game series with a Wednesday afternoon game at Coors Field in Denver, Colo.
