I used to go to Ozzfest every year in the early 00's. Saw Ozzy half dozen times. Despite being the oldest guy on the bill he was usually the most energetic on stage. Absolute icon whose influence is immeasurable in music and culture, IMO.

I grew fond of his music late and was watching him on the TV series the "The Osbournes Want to Believe".

Ozzy and Sharon seemed like really nice people.

yeah that just crossed my feed too sad.

I remember in HS when he left Sabbath thinking it was going to be a huge loss but it ended up being good because Ozzy solo was great and Sabbath hired Ronnie James Dio to replace him so they stayed great too.

Now they're both gone.

I want to say he was diagnosed within the last year. Rumors of how long he had known vary but it went public not long ago and was known when he retired from stage.

Back in 1982, Ozzy had a concert at University of Illinois - I didn't get the lottery for tickets, but some of the guys on my floor did - they were all pumped up to go. Not long after the concert was scheduled to start, heard a big commotion outside of the dorm - people were yelling Ozzy sucks, others that he died, etc.

During the opening number "Over the Mountain", Ozzy was lowered down, started singing, and collapsed. The band kept playing for a bit, and people thought it was part of the show. Then the band stopped one by one and medics rushed the stage. He was taken to a nearby hospital. The night before he had bitten the head off a bat during a show, and was getting rabies shots, and had a bad reaction to it.

There's a great interview wiht Ozzy on the bat story. He's so hard to understand his accent is so thick but he says he didn't think it was a real bat someone threw it onstage he thought it was going to be rubber or a stuffed bat he just grabbed it and bit and then realized it was real

First concert I ever went to was Black Sabbath in 1971 at the Celebrity Theater. Opening act was Sweathog. It was great and, yes, somehow I do remember it.

Really glad I streamed the Final show on July 5th and I saw the final Black Sabbath tour with Ozzy at Talking Stick on Sept 21, 2016. I knew each was the last chance. I missed Ronnie James Dio's next to last show ever with Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath), with free tickets even, and I still haven't forgiven myself. So, I saw Motorhead's last show in Phoenix as I felt Lemmy would be gone soon. And he was.

I am going to the Alice Cooper and Judas Priest show in October. Because, who knows? These legends are exiting the stage. Alice and Halford are still both kicking ass but they are in that age group.
