One of the more underrated QB’s in NFL history. I still remember it being in the late 60’s & my Dad finally had enough money to buy a color TV. I came home from my Pop Warner football game & the Niners were playing the Rams in the later game of the day. I walked into the family room & couldn’t take my eyes off that TV. It was Roman Gabriel vs John Brodie. The Niners won even though the Rams were definitely favored.

Remember him well, especially on those division-winning Niners teams of the early 70s. Then, later, as a long-time color man on NBC broadcasts of NFL games. RIP Mr. Brodie.

I just remember Gabriel taking the snap take two steps back And throwing the ball as hard as he could over the middle and Billy Truax would be five yards away and catch it every time. I couldn't believe he could catch those fast balls. Of course that was stickum days.

I was born in 58, so I was around 10 or 11 lol. Started being a Cardinal fan in 64. My Dad bought that tv from a co-worker. Half the time, the color didn’t even work. I do remember that everyone’s face was a bright orange lol.
