Rick Pitino reportedly targeting Peyton Siva for St. John’s assistant gig

Fresh off a successful blowout exhibition victory in The Bahamas, there appears to be at least a little bit of uncertainty surrounding a Louisville legend and current member of the Cardinal coaching staff.

According to Adam Zagoria, Rick Pitino is targeting his former star point guard and current U of L assistant Peyton Siva to join the St. John’s staff.

Siva would replace Greg Youncofski, who left St. John’s in the spring to join Richard Pitino’s staff at Xavier.

Siva is preparing for his third season on Pat Kelsey’s staff at Louisville. After a stint as the program’s Director of Player Development/Basketball Alumni Relations, he was promoted to full-time assistant before the 2025-26 campaign. Siva has specialized in working with U of L’s point guards and also was tasked with instituting a press last season.

As much as Siva loves Louisville and the city that has embraced him, Pitino’s coaching tree and the allure of coaching under a Hall of Famer speaks for itself. This will be a tough decision. I hope for our sake it ends with Peyton choosing to stay put.
