May 2—MORGANTOWN — Rich Rodriguez's transfer addition streak continued for West Virginia Thursday night.

Ferris State and former Washington State running back Kannon Katzer announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he is transferring to the Mountaineers with two years of eligibility left.

Katzer played in 15 games his final season with Ferris State. He rushed for 1, 128 yards, on 128 carries and 11 touchdowns. He had just six rushes in one season at Washington State, too.

The 5-foot-9 back from Spokane, Washington, is another veteran back to a room that took a hit this portal period. He's another smaller back, but will provide more depth behind last year's leading rusher Jahiem White, who was injured this spring.

Katzer is the second running back Rodriguez has added this period. He joins SMU running back Jaylan Knighton as the two running back additions for new running backs coach Larry Porter. Porter said he'd be heavily involved in recruiting running backs. Porter just produced running back Omarion Hampton while he was at North Carolina, who was taken in the first round of this year's NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers.

This addition marks the fifth portal player added in two days for Rodriguez. He had four players sign Wednesday, and is now nearing 20 this spring.

Rodriguez is over the 105-player limit and the portal period closed for new entries, so he'll have to make some cuts to make room.
