A four-run fifth inning outburst clinched a 7-2 victory for the Terre Haute Rex over the visiting Decatur Bean Ballers in Prospect League summer wood-bat baseball Tuesday night at Bob Warn Field.
The victory was the Rex's second consecutive, following Sunday's 16-11 win over Chillicothe.
Terre Haute's fifth inning included Nomar Garcia's RBI single and Wally Diaz's solo home run. Garcia scored after his single, stealing second base and then advancing home on an error by the Bean Baller's center fielder. Rex leadoff hitter Ben Kearns also scored in the inning, stealing third and advancing home on an error by the Decatur catcher.
The Rex totaled 11 hits in the game, including two each by Kearns and Garcia, who both doubled, as well as catcher Renn Harper and second baseman Joseph Gutierrez. Left fielder Nate Millington drove in two runs.
Terre Haute pitchers Jean Quezada, Fernando Crisostomo, Tommy Johnson and Breyllin Suriel combined for six strikeouts, while walking five. Crisostomo got the win, his second.
The win gave the Rex a 3-4 record going into Wednesday's game vs. Champion City at Springfield, Ohio. Decatur slipped to 2-5.
