Reports: Patriots-Eagles Still Discussing If Deal Can Be Done Without 2028 Draft Picks originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles are in the spotlight on Monday as an A.J. Brown trade can happen as soon as 4 p.m. EST.
After 4 p.m., the Eagles can trade Brown and spread his cap hit over the next two seasons. While the widespread belief among insiders is that Brown is headed to the Patriots, the two sides still need to agree on trade compensation. Many reports indicate that the Patriots will send a 2028 first-round pick to the Eagles for the Pro Bowl wideout, but NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that as of Monday morning, the two sides are expected to discuss whether 2028 picks are needed.
"NEW THIS AM: (Real-Time Update) I was told early this morning that a discussion on 2028 compensation--in general--will come into fold early today, including debate on IF or CAN there be agreement on picks from any other round in this year, per league sources," Anderson wrote on X Monday morning. "Again I'm just sharing ongoing talk I'm hearing as sides push towards a completed official exchange."
Reports all offseason have suggested that the Eagles want at least a first-round pick for Brown. However, the real question is if the Eagles would accept less than that if it were for the 2027 draft, or if there were another pick swap involved.
There is a long way to go before the two sides actually agree on the compensation for Brown, so there is a chance that a deal will not get done on Monday. However, at the end of the day, the Eagles have already shown that they intend to trade Brown with their offseason additions of Dontayvion Wicks and Makai Lemon.
The Patriots are seemingly the only team with interest in Brown anywhere near the Eagles' price point, so it seems like only a matter of time before the two sides agree on something.
