REPORTS: Miami Hurricanes Athletic Director Dan Radakovich to retire; successor targeted

On Friday, multiple reports emerged that Miami Hurricanes Athletic Director Dan Radakovich would be retiring. Reports were made by Andrea Adelson of ESPN, Pete Thamel of ESPN, and Ross Dellinger of Yahoo! Sports.

Radakovich has been AD at Miami since 2021. Prior to that, he was AD at Clemson for a decade through the Tigers’ golden era of football success, and Georgia Tech before that.

In his time at Miami, Radakovich has helped elevate the department, and made key hires for the head coaches of the Football, Baseball, Men’s Basketball, and Women’s Basketball programs. Principally, of course, has been the rebuilding of the Canes Football program from the mediocre outfit it had previously been to the elite, championship caliber program we see at present.

With Radakovich heading to retirement, University President Joe Echevarria will be looking for a new voice to lead the Athletics department. And, according to the same reports of Radakovich’s departure, there is a clear front runner for the job: Michael Yormark.

Yormark is the twin brother of Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark. He’s a veteran sports executive who served as the President and CEO of the Florida Panthers and worked 12 total years with the Panthers, which gives him a lot of exposure in that corridor of the country.

The first thing that caught my eye was the Yormark last name, what with his twin brother being the Big 12 commissioner. Then you consider his South Florida ties from his time as President and CEO of the Florida Panthers, and further experience with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Columbus Blue Jackets and his first job wit the New York Yankees, and Yormark clearly has the experience and success to step into this role and continue to lead Miami Athletics to great success.

This is how you soft launch something. It gives Miami time to round out Radakovich’s incredible career, and lead into a transition to the next AD, someone with a wealth of success and excellence across his career in sports.
