One of BYU basketball’s Big 3 is reportedly entering the transfer portal.

On the second day that the transfer window is officially open, multiple national outlets reported that Cougars guard Robert Wright III plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

The news was first reported by The Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman early Wednesday morning.

Wright joined Kevin Young’s program last offseason as a transfer from Baylor, where he starred as a true freshman during the 2024-25 season.

In the 2025-26 campaign for BYU, the 6-foot-1 Wright started all 35 games for the Cougars and was the team’s second-leading scorer, averaging 18.1 points per game.

He also led BYU in assists with 4.6 per game and added averages of 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals per contest.

Wright, who earned All-Big 12 third team honors, shot 46.7% from the field, 41% from 3 and 82.1% from the free-throw line.

He took on an even bigger role when senior Richie Saunders was lost to a torn ACL during Big 12 play, and Wright played alongside All-American freshman AJ Dybantsa as one of the league’s top playmaking duos.

One of his most memorable moments of the year came when Wright hit the game-winning 3-pointer as BYU rallied past Clemson to win at the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden in early December.
