Report: Star youth performer Maycon Cardozo seen at Säbener Straße, nears contract extension at Bayern Munich

Maycon Cardozo rather came out of nowhere. Initially just another player invited to Bayern Munich’s World Squad side project (which started as a glorified PR stunt), Cardozo stole the show during the program. He was simultaneously the youngest and the most impressive player, impressing with his creative play, technical quality and close control. He then became just the third World Squad player to receive a contract to play at Bayern. Head c0ach Roy Makaay leads player evaluation with his team of coaches and tends to deliberate for a while. When it came to Cardozo, however, Makaay and Co. were entirely convinced of his skill. Check the series out on Bayern’s YouTube account if you wish.

Cardozo signed a contract until June 2027 in January 2025, but was desperately unlucky to lose the first half of the year to injury. He has not let the lost time get to him, though. During the 2025/26 season so far, he starred for the U-19s and was promoted to the U-23s at the start of 2026. He even made his senior team debut in the friendly against RB Salzburg (if one counts a friendly as a debut). The former STB academy footballer’s rise so far has been a dizzying one.

And it looks like that ride will continue in Munich. Bild reports, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, that Cardozo is close to renewing his terms past 2027:

Maycon Cardozo is on the verge of extending his contract at FC Bayern. Negotiations are at the final stages. The 17-year old was at Säbener Straße with his agent Delon Alves for negotiations with the club. Bayern wants to secure his future with a youth contract initially and a prospect of playing for the first team in the future.

As always needs to be highlighted, a youngster’s development is full of ups and downs. As high as Cardozo’s star has risen this season, he is certainly not ready to become a full time member of the first team and will have down periods in his development. For now, he will likely renew his deal and will get the chance to hone his game against fully grown adults in the Regionalliga with the U-23s. He is in a very good position to continue his growth.
