Bayern Munich’s signing of Guido Della Rovere from Italian club Cremonese was very unusual. It was the first time in many years that the Bavarians had signed an Italian player, after all. But the attacking midfielder had been very highly rated at his club and decided to make the leap from Italy to Germany’s biggest club.

In the two years since, Della Rovere has had two good but injury hit campaigns in the Regionalliga Bayern for the U-23s. The 19-year-old has demonstrated real technical quality, dribbling skills and creativity, but has somewhat struggled with inconsistency and finishing. Furthermore, he has had to deal with recurring hamstring strains. This all means that he has yet to make his first team debut for Bayern and only made the bench once. Meanwhile, he has seen players such as Lennart Karl, Wisdom Mike and Maycon Cardozo preferred to him in senior matches.

Given Dellar Rovere’s contract expires in 2027 and he has few chances of making the senior team at Bayern anytime soon, this may be a good time to move on. Italian SkySport reporter Gianluca DiMarzio reports (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) that some big Italian clubs are after the teenager:

Fiorentina and Napoli are interested in signing Guido Della Rovere, with Fiorentina currently leading the race. The 19-year is under contract at Bayern until 2027 and has yet to make his senior debut.

BFW Analysis

Fiorentina have fallen on some very hard times and barely saved themselves from relegation after undergoing the worst start to a domestic season of their near-100 year history, ending up in 15th. Meanwhile, Napoli have hired Massimilian Allegri as their new manager. He is not known to give young players chances. Are these really the best landing spots for Della Rovere?

It does seem as if Della Rovere needs to move on from Bayern to further his career. Another year for the U-23s will not help him at all and he is not making the first team. And perhaps he wants to move back to Italy, considering how difficult integrating himself at Germany has been. But surely he can find more suitable teams to go to than Fiorentina or Napoli.
