The "Red Rifle" doesn't have any shots left in Charlotte.
According to ESPN senior insider Adam Schefter, the Carolina Panthers are trading quarterback Andy Dalton to the Philadelphia Eagles. Per Schefter, the Panthers will receive a 2027 seventh-round draft pick in exchange for the soon-to-be 16th-year veteran.
Dalton first signed with the Panthers on a two-year deal ahead of the 2023 campaign. The sides would re-up on another two-year pact going into 2025.
He's gone on to make seven starts over 13 games for Carolina—passing for 1,643 yards, 10 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 64.7-percent completion rate.
His position as the backup to starter Bryce Young is set to be taken up by former first-round pick Kenny Pickett, who joined the Panthers on a one-year pact last week.
In addition to the draft compensation, Carolina's trade of Dalton is also expected to clear up approximately $2.15 million in salary cap space.
