Fresh off an NBA championship, the Oklahoma City Thunder have flipped the page to their offseason. They handed out a contract extension to a key piece of their rotation.
The Thunder signed Jaylin Williams to a three-year, $24 million extension, per ESPN's Shams Charania. The NBA champion declined his $2.1 million team option for the 2025-26 season to work out a new deal. The third year is a team option.
It'll be a big summer for OKC's historic 2022 draft class. Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren are also eligible for extensions. Expect them to get signed to new deals as two-thirds of the Thunder's star trio, alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Williams has developed into a quality backup center. He averaged 5.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 47 games last season. The 23-year-old has been a key rotation piece on the Thunder in his three seasons.
Not a bad contract for the Thunder. It's pretty team-friendly considering Williams' contributions. For him, he gets long-term financial security after being on a second-round contract for his first three years.
