After leading Iowa men's basketball to a 24-13 record and an Elite Eight NCAA Tournament appearance in his first season, head coach Ben McCollum garnered plenty of praise both locally and nationally.

According to CBS Sports' Matt Norlander, the Hawkeyes' leader was even offered to interview for the vacant North Carolina head coaching job. But, despite the Tarheels being one of the most historic and prestigious programs in the sport's history, McCollum apparently turned down the opportunity.

"He had contact [with] UNC last week as the search played out, per sources," Norlander wrote on his social media. "UNC was hoping to meet with him in person Sunday for a proper interview, but he passed on that invitation to stay at Iowa."

UNC then pivoted quickly to hire former Denver Nuggets head coach Mike Malone.

It seems Iowa has a loyal leader on its hands.
