Hertha Berlin talent Kennet Eichhorn has reportedly decided against a move to Liverpool which leaves Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig as the top contenders for the 16-year-old.
Without giving a source, Sky TV said on Tuesday that midfielder Eichhorn has turned down Liverpool interest.
A move would have been complicated because Britain is no longer part of the European Union and based on FIFA rules moves are only possible once a player turns 18. There are exceptions, if for instance parents of a player move to Britain for other reasons than football.
Within the EU, players can move under certain conditions if they are under 18.
Eichhorn has been at Hertha since 2017, made his first team debut in the past season and is a German under-17 international.
Leverkusen and Leipzig are now seen as the frontrunners to sign the talent and are said to be ready to pay the transfer fee estimated at €20 million ($23 million). Sky said a decision is to come by Monday.
It speaks in Leverkusen's favour that they have signed former Hertha youth teams coach Konstaninos Kotsifakis as their U19 coach. In addition, Ibrahim Maza left Hertha for Leverkusen last year and has become a player.
