Elliotte Friedman is back with the news bombs on the 2026 NHL Draft broadcast. The NHL insider revealed that the Philadelphia Flyers are believed to be one of the three teams on the list of preferred trade destinations submitted by Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse.
The Flyers have been linked to Nurse ever since it surfaced that the Oilers and Nurse are mutually moving on. Among the other teams believed to be on the list are the Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins.
Following Friedman’s report, the panel speculated that the Anaheim Ducks could also be a potential suitor for Nurse’s services.
It will be difficult to get a trade for Nurse without the Oilers eating part of the salary. That is arguably the biggest hurdle for any team dealing with Nurse and his $9.25 million AAV. The one thing constantly said about Nurse is that he is a good defenseman; the issue is that he’s paid like a great one.
One thing the Flyers have mentioned multiple times is how they want to upgrade at the blueline.
Nurse is a good offensive defenseman, but is also good defensively – he’s just not great at either. What he can do is eat minutes. Put him on a pair with Travis Sanheim, and it could be a really solid workhorse duo, protecting some of the younger defenseman from too big a role in their young careers.
With the Flyers reportedly on his list, would you trade for Darnell Nurse?
