Report: Detroit Tigers Eyeing Yankees Top Prospect in Potential Tarik Skubal Trade

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Tigers have been evaluating talent throughout the New York Yankees farm system and reportedly have interest in multiple prospects.

“The Detroit Tigers are looking at Yankees prospects (and others, too) and are believed to like them, especially SS George Lombard Jr., whose dad is the Tigers bench coach, and reliever Carlos Lagrange,” Heyman reported.

Lombard Jr. is widely regarded as the Yankees’ top prospect and has emerged as one of the premier young shortstops in minor league baseball. His connection to Detroit adds another layer of intrigue, as his father, George Lombard Sr., currently serves as the Tigers’ bench coach.

Lagrange has also generated attention within scouting circles thanks to his power arm and high-upside potential as a reliever.

The report comes amid increasing discussion surrounding Tarik Skubal’s future. ESPN recently listed the reigning two-time Cy Young Award winner as the No. 1 trade candidate in baseball, assigning him an 85% chance of being dealt if the Tigers fall out of playoff contention.

Detroit has shown signs of life in recent weeks, however, and multiple reports indicate the organization plans to evaluate its position in the standings closer to the All-Star break before making any final decisions regarding Skubal.

For now, Skubal remains the centerpiece of Detroit’s rotation. But if the Tigers ultimately decide to entertain offers, it appears the Yankees could be one of several teams being closely monitored as potential trade partners.
