The Dallas Cowboys apparently were very happy with their group of tryout participants from Monday, and their affinity for trying to find diamonds in the rough from the spring league continues. The team wasted no time in signing Chris Glaser to fill a need along the offensive line. With backup center Matt Hennessy sidelined for the foreseeable future with a neck injury that will require surgery, Dallas added the UFL lineman who spent 2026 with the Columbus Aviators.

On Tuesday, it appears that the team has circled back around on a different UFL target, one who was part of a three-man workout on Monday. According to UFL reporter James Larsen, Dallas is set to sign DB Ameer Speed from the Houston Roughnecks.

NEWS: The Dallas #Cowboys are signing Houston #Gamblers DB Ameer Speed, per source.

Speed joined Houston midway through the #UFL season, with an impressive 5 PBU's (plus 14 TKL) in just 5 games.

Speed, a 2023 sixth-round pick with the New England Patriots, bounced around the league for several years before finding his footing in the UFL. The University of Georgia product played for both New England and Indianapolis in 2023, and the Colts and Chicago Bears in 2024.

He spent time with the Houston Texans last season, sticking in Texas and joining the Roughnecks this past season. He played five games and had 14 tackles with five pass breakups.

Speed stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 215 pounds, likely slotting him in with the safeties and nickel defenders as opposed to the boundary corners. Dallas continues to churn the offseason to create it in the mold of new defensive coordinator Christian Parker.
