The Chargers are planning to release guard Mekhi Becton in the coming days, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Signed to a two-year, $20 million deal last offseason, Becton was brought in to solidify their interior offensive line and enhance their physical, run-heavy identity. However, he battled injuries and inconsistency in 2025, appearing in just 15 games and leaving much to be desired.

Additionally, he is being let go because he isn't a good fit in offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel's scheme, which requires more athletic offensive linemen. His 2026 cap hit sits at $12.2 million, but cutting him will save the Chargers $9.7 million with only $2.5 million in dead money.

With Becton gone, the Bolts will look to free agency or the draft to fill the right guard spot.
