It appears that the Vancouver Canucks could be deciding on their new head coach in the near future. According to a new report from Elliotte Friedman, the Canucks have completed their first round of interviews, and are now in the process of creating shortlist of candidates. Friedman, who was speaking on "Donnie and Dhali, also revealed two names to keep an eye on as potential front runners for Vancouver's head coaching job.

"I believe they did a whole bunch of interviews last week, said Friedman. "Malhotra's name, obviously, is there. Marco Sturm's name got out, and I think that's pretty legitimate. I believe that this week the Canucks are going to try and drop to a shortlist of three or four candidates. I would think that Sturm would be on that list. I would think that Malhotra would be on that list, and then probably one or two more. That's what I understand the Canucks are in the process of doing. They did their larger group last week, and they are going to narrow it down to three or four this week and prepare to do those interviews."

As Friedman mentioned, two names to keep an eye on are Manny Malhotra and Marco Sturm. Malhotra is currently coaching the Abbotsford Canucks, while Sturm has been the head coach of the Ontario Reign for the last three season. Both Sturm and Malhotra also played for the Canucks, and were even teammates during the 2011-12 season.

During his appearance, Friedman also gave an update on former coach Rick Tocchet. He mentioned that the Seattle Kraken were interested in the 2024 Jack Adams Award winner, but Friedman was not sure if that is where Tocchet wants to coach next season. Friedman also discussed the possibility that Tocchet will return to the NHL on TNT next year instead of coaching in the NHL.
