The reigning PRCA World Champion Steer Wrestler will not get the chance to defend his gold buckle this year. Tucker Allen announced Thursday that his 2026 rodeo season has come to an end after suffering a serious knee injury earlier this week at the Spanish Fork Fiesta Days Rodeo.
According to Allen, he tore his left ACL, MCL and posterolateral meniscus root during Monday's performance. The injury will require surgery, which is scheduled in two weeks with Justin Sports Medicine orthopedic surgeon Dr. Tandy Freeman.
"Not the news I hoped to be sharing but unfortunately I will be out for the remainder of the rodeo season," Allen wrote in a social media post announcing the injury. He added that he hopes to return in time for the winter rodeos at the beginning of next year.
Allen also thanked his sponsors, family, friends and traveling partners for their support, saying he plans to come back "better than ever."
The injury ends what had been a frustrating title defense for the reigning world champion. After dominating at the National Finals Rodeos last December, Allen entered 2026 with expectations of making another run at a gold buckle. Instead, he spent much of the season searching for the breakthrough win that could get back into the world title conversation this year.
He currently sits inside the top 30 of the PRCA World Standings, but with a lot of big money rodeos remaining, there was still plenty of opportunity left to climb. However, now healing and recovery is of utmost importance.
Allen's championship season in 2025 came as one of the biggest stories of the year. The Ventura, California, cowboy entered the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo fifth in the world standings before winning the average title with qualified runs in all 10 rounds. He left Las Vegas as a first time PRCA World Champion after setting a new single season earnings record in steer wrestling.
Now his focus shifts from defending a world title to recovering from another significant knee injury in his career.
Steer wrestling is one of rodeo's most physically demanding events. Knee injuries are an unfortunate reality sometimes, and Allen will now take on months of rehabilitation before he can return to the arena.
Allen's goal is to be back for the winter rodeos in early 2027. For now though, he is getting ready to step into another exciting season. Recenetly, Allen proposed and him and his fiancé are planning a wedding. Tucker will now have plenty of time to help with the wedding planning and to enjoy this time with his girl, Scout.
